Canada Needs Nation-Building Projects That Fight Tariffs AND Climate Consequences.
As Canada absorbs a 50 per cent tariff wall and a summer of fire and heat, the federal government must build the energy and housing infrastructure that makes our country less exposed to both.
Over 930 communities—representing more than 26 million Canadians—have been impacted by climate consequences so far this year. Our country is under threat on two fronts — economic bullying from our neighbour and growing climate disasters.
Both threats are inextricably linked. And their solutions are one and the same:
we need to say Elbows Up for Climate.
A clean electricity grid, renewable electricity generation, a national energy efficient buildings program and a national resilience strategy will create hundreds of thousands of good, unionized local jobs that can’t be outsourced to the US or to AI — all while supporting Canadian steel, aluminum and lumber, sectors now facing American tariffs.
Ahead of the 2026 budget, now is the time to tell your MP and Prime Minister Carney:
We can’t ignore climate consequences in the face of economic threats. Only when we address both can we be truly prosperous. Clean, true nation-building projects are the solution.
